Injuries to the brain can lead to serious consequences if not treated and cared for properly. The appearance of sequelae after a brain injury is mainly characterized by mental symptoms, which can have a significant impact and burden on the patient and their family. So, what are the early signs of sequelae after a brain injury?

1. Agnosia: Agnosia is a rare symptom in which a person can see or perceive an object but cannot relate it to its function and purpose. Patients with agnosia cannot recognize familiar faces or common objects such as spoons or pencils, even though they can see and describe these objects.

2. Aphasia: Aphasia refers to the loss of language comprehension and expression ability due to damage to the cortical language center of the brain. Language disorders can take various forms, such as the loss of the ability to understand written language (aphasia) or the inability to recall or pronounce the name of an object (nominal aphasia). Some patients with nominal aphasia may not remember the correct name of an object, while others may know the word but cannot express it. Articulation disorders refer to the inability to articulate clearly and accurately.

3. Post-traumatic epilepsy: Post-traumatic epilepsy refers to the occurrence of epilepsy after a brain injury. Epileptic seizures are caused by abnormal discharge of neurons in the brain. About 10% of severe non-penetrating head injuries and 40% of penetrating head injuries result in epilepsy, which can occur several years after the brain injury. The type of seizure and the origin of abnormal discharges are related to the manifestation of sequelae after a brain injury.
