Mandy Perez, who also practices yoga, explains that through yoga, one learns to relax and harmonize with the baby. Yoga also promotes a healthy lifestyle, as certain poses can help balance hormones and stimulate reproductive functions.
Burman states that if anxiety is a contributing factor to the problem, yoga can be helpful.
A few years ago, researchers from Harvard tested this theory. Women who were attempting to conceive participated in a ten-week program that included relaxation and yoga. The researchers found that these women were almost three times more likely to get pregnant compared to those who did not participate in the program.
Dr. Michael Putman, a reproductive specialist in Dallas, is aware of this study but remains skeptical. He states that the research has very limited value and cannot be fully trusted. However, he acknowledges the benefits of yoga, particularly for couples under stress due to fertility issues. Yoga can provide tranquility, hope, and optimism. Dr. Putman adds that while there is evidence suggesting that yoga is more beneficial than other exercises, it cannot treat reproductive problems. He believes that yoga can make the process more positive and assist in achieving pregnancy.
For individuals like Burman and her husband, yoga may be a great option. Burman herself attests that yoga has given her hope.
